The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan

The Gracekeepers: A Novel - Kirsty Logan

Ever since I've learned about Kirsty Logan, I've been interested in reading her work. Especially The Gracekeepers. It's about a traveling circus in a world covered mostly in water with very little land left, two girls with a possible romance in the works, and a bear. That premise was enough to make me want this book! I had to wait a while to get my hands on her novel, but I finally got around to reading her book and I enjoyed it quite a bit!

Logan is a fantastic author. I love how poetic her prose is. There's something so beautiful about how she described this world of deep oceans, the land and their own rituals, and the performances in the circus. Just reading this one book by Logan gets me excited to read all her other works!

The characters are all nicely fleshed out. Each character is complex. Even the ones that annoyed me, like Avalon and Flitch and Ainsel, they had so many layers to them that made reading this book enjoyable, even if the characters themselves weren't so.

I think this is a great read if you like circuses, fairy tales, and lovely writing. It's a lovely little adventure story which makes the reader feel like they are right there on the boat performing with the circus crew. Plus, there's a bear, which is always awesome to read about.
