Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede

This book series has been around for a while. However, I was never introduced to it until recently. It's one of my best friend's favorite series and I can see why. It's a book about what I like to call "old magic." I love books that are truly about the magic and adventure that books from the past used to contain. I adore books about dragons and magic spells and princesses not conforming to the "norm." It's something that I feel is rare to read in books so when I read this, I was extremely happy and excited that I just devour it in one sitting.
The main character, Cimorene, is strong, brave, and intelligent. What I love about her character is that, though she is a princess, she refuses to do what's expected of her. That being embroider and dance and be at the beck and call of a prince. She was like, "Nope! I want more out of life!" And she took matters into her own hands! SHE decided what was going to become of her life, which is how it should be! Patricia C. Wrede did an excellent job of writing such a forward thinking story and I am so glad I read her book. I'm definitely going to read more of her works because she is an author who definitely deserves more people talking about her books.
If you like fantasy with dragons, magic, and princesses who don't act like a "damsel in distress" then I think you should read this book. It's bloody brilliant!
