Blackout by John Rocco

Blackout - John Rocco

When I went to the library the other day, this is one picture book that stood out to me because of the beautiful art style. I loved how dark the illustrations looked compared to other picture books. Of course, I had no idea that the book was about a family living in the big city and them experiencing a summer blackout. I was just drawn in by the beautiful art.

Then I read the story and I am so glad I did. It brought back a lot of nostalgia for me. I, too, grew up in the city and remember some of those summer blackouts that never seem to last long enough for the family to continue playing a game of Uno. X3 I miss those days. Now I live in the South and I experience a blackout every weekend so blackouts have lost some of its majesty over the years. Still, this book helped remind me of all the fun I used to have during blackouts when I was a kid.

I highly recommend this book to all readers, especially if you have a fondness for cities and the night sky. The story is amazing when it comes to bringing the family together and enjoying the little things in life. Not to mention the artwork is outstanding! It's just a beautiful book all around.
