Raven Girl by Audrey Niffenegger

Raven Girl - Audrey Niffenegger

What an intriguing, well-crafted book! I really enjoyed reading this "new fairy tale." I loved what Niffenegger was trying to say with this story: Love comes in all forms. It was beautifully told with fascinating artworks that the author herself made.

I'll be honest, I didn't think I was going to like this book. I tried reading The Time Traveler's Wife a few years ago and couldn't get into it. I didn't think I would really like this one either as a result. But I am so happy I did like it! Everything about it is on the bizarre side but that's what I love about this book. It's not like anything I have ever read before. I mean... I never thought I would read a book that was about a Postman who fell in love with a Raven. It was so intriguing!

My one complaint was the length. The book is almost too short to enjoy fully. I wanted to know more about the Postman and his relationship with the Raven. I wanted to know more about the Doctor who was helping the Ravel Girl get her wings. I just wanted to know more! Because of how short it was, you couldn't get the necessary developments that a book like this requires in order to enjoy it fully. Still, I loved it enough that I am willing to go back and read Niffenegger's other works.

I highly recommend this book if you are into bizarre fairy tales. You might end up enjoying a lot more than you think.
