Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

Falling Kingdoms - Morgan Rhodes, Michelle Rowen

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I have missed reading and reviewing books. I've been busy for the past couple of months. I didn't have much time to read or review... anything, which is a shame because I love reading more than anything else in the entire world! (Well, except maybe for Cloud Strife. XP) It's really been quite a struggle for me having to go day by day without a book in my hand. It's one of the main reasons why it took me so long to finish this book! But now that everything is calm again and nothing is trying to kill me (seriously, I've been through some crazy shit, man), it's time for me to review this bad boy! >:3

I have to admit, it took me a while to get into this book. Not that the writing was off-putting or the plot was all over the place, I mostly struggled with the characters. I've never met such a large group of despicable characters in one book before (except for, you know, the obvious). Man, there was not a single main character I liked reading about in this book. Some of the side characters, like Nic and Mira and Lucia, I enjoyed a whole lot more. Cleo, Magnus, and Jonas just rubbed me the wrong way. Partly why this book was so difficult for me to read at times.

Another part of the book that put me off was how predictable it was. I could predict a "plot point" more than six chapters in advance. To me, that's not really a fun book. It makes for it to be a bit... slow. I was actually hoping for something a bit more worthwhile!

However, despite all these flaws, I still very much enjoyed the world and the overall plot. Once I got over the initial dislike for the characters, I found myself that I couldn't put down the book! The last two hundred pages flew by for me. It was incredible how quickly I was able to finish this book after how long it took me to get past the middle portion! I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I feel like this book and I have been through so much in the past few months and I suppose that is why I feel fondly for it, despite my minor complaints. I guess you can say I enjoyed this book a lot more than I let on. It's by no means a great book but it's definitely not a bad one. I liked it.

I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel. I have a feeling I know what is going to happen but I still want to be able to experience it for myself. I think I am going to enjoy just as much as I did this one!
